Something Really Cool Happened!
This is a first for me and this newsletter.
Several months ago I stumbled upon this trailer for the forthcoming movie, Sketch, and was really impressed. As I was thinking about summer movies I wanted to watch in the theater, this one was added to my list for two primary reasons:
I love Tony Hale.
It’s a movie my entire family could watch.
I then realized that it’s produced by Angel Studios, which is a faith-based production company. If you’ve followed them over the last several years, you’ve been able to see their increased quality of films and television shows they’re creating. Part of their quality filmmaking is due to the high-caliber actors and actresses connected to these films. All of this added to my excitement about the movie and a desire to try and see it with my family.
Well, Angel Studios has now made that a little easier.
Here’s What Happened
I’m not exactly sure how I had the idea, but I know I had the Family Movie Night community in mind. I don’t know what I expected to accomplish, but I decided I would reach out to someone in the marketing department at Angel Studios, tell them that I write a movie newsletter for families, and see if they had any interest in promoting the movie through this newsletter.
I was surprised at how quickly I heard back from them, but it was a generic response that said someone would be in touch. I assumed they might ignore my offer - it isn’t like this is a massive newsletter - or that I would never hear back, which was understandable. Well, someone did get back to me and after some back-and-forth, Angel sent me a screener for the film.
For those of you who don’t know what a screener is, it’s a pre-release version of the film. In other words, they sent me a private link to watch the movie in my home before it’s even released in theaters! The link has an expiration on it and it’s limited to a certain number of views, but it’s more than generous.
In addition to this, I’m also able to interview one of the executive producers of the film. He’s a producer who’s been in the business a while with some notable credits to his name. I’m unsure if I’ll be able to find the time to interview him, but I’m humbled by the opportunity.
One stipulation about the screener is that reviews are embargoed until July 30th, since the movie doesn’t release until August 6th. Even though I’m unable to write anything formal about the movie prior to that date, I’m hoping to share something once the embargo expires.
Regardless, I’m pretty excited about all of this. I’m grateful for the generosity of Angel Studios and how kind they’ve been to offer something to a small newsletter like mine. I’m also hoping that this will put, Sketch, on your radar and encourage you to consider supporting a movie like this in your local theater.
If you would, please consider passing this article along to other families that may be interested in seeing this movie. Even if it doesn’t seem like something that’s appealing to you, help spread the word to others out of appreciation of Angel Studios’ generosity.
Be sure to check back in the coming weeks to hear what my family thought of the movie. Once again, Sketch releases in theaters on August 6th.
